Preparing and serving food for those in need...

Feeding the hungry is one of the most important outreach ministries of Trinity Church. Over the years we have been involved in feeding programs at Nike Village, Bread and Roses, Haven from Hunger, and LifeBridge (formerly Salem Mission). Our current efforts to end hunger are focused on LifeBridge in Salem, MA. This important work is open to persons of all ages - children included. There are three distinct roles for volunteers. With enough people helping, we can expect to participate every two months and feed 75 - 100 people.

Trinity Church is responsible for serving dinner to Lifebridge clients on the second Wednesday of the months of February, April, June, August, October, and December.

The tasks involved in this communal effort include:

1.  Shopping for food. The shopper will buy the listed ingredients needed and make sure they are available in the kitchen on the designated cooking Sunday. Shoppers will be reimbursed for their purchases.

2.  Cooking.  The food preparers will meet on the designated Sunday in the Trinity kitchen. They should expect to spend an hour to an hour and a half preparing the main dish. Once it is cooked, it will be placed in the freezer. Tuesday afternoon, the prepared food will be transfered from the freezer to the refrigerator. This is the day before serving the second Wednesday of the designated month.

3.  Serving.  2 - 4 persons are needed to handle serving at LifeBridge. One of the servers should be familiar with the procedures at LifeBridge and will be the informal 'leader' of the serving team for that day. The team of servers should arrive at Trinity by 4 p.m. on the designated Wednesday. They will pack the food and take it to LifeBridge along with any other food that LifeBridge requested.
